RUKIGA: The ongoing Surgical Health Camp at Kamwezi Health Center IV in Kamwezi Sub County has been inundated with patients, prompting calls from residents for an extension of the camp’s services.

As the camp nears its conclusion on Friday, the sheer volume of individuals seeking medical assistance has raised concerns that not all patients will get the necessary care within the remaining hours.

Organized by Dr. Sylvia Alinaitwe, Deputy Managing Director of National Water and Sewage Cooperation (NWSC), in collaboration with the Mission to Heal Organization from the United States, the camp has been a beacon of hope for many residents suffering from various surgical issues.

Monica Nanshemeza, a resident of Rubogo Cell, Kibanda Parish in Kamwezi Sub County, expressed her apprehension about the camp’s ability to discuss the large number of cases.

“The Healthy Camp has attracted a significant number of patients with complex surgical issues. Many are worried that they won’t be treated in the remaining time.” Said Nanshemeza Monica.

Nanshemeza highlighted a critical issue faced by villagers who struggle with severe medical conditions but lack the financial means to access adequate healthcare.

“Dr. Sylvia Alinaitwe has a kind heart and is a Godsend to us. Many people can’t access proper medical facilities due to financial constraints. This initiative has been a lifeline for many, though we are concerned about the remaining time as the numbers are still high.” Said Nanshemeza Monica

Twinomujuni Charlies, a resident of Kagarama Cell, Kigara Parish, and Ikitegyekye Jane from omwibare Ward, Muhanga Town Council, also shared their experiences. Both expressed their gratitude for the camp, noting that they have been waiting patiently for their turn.

They commended the organizers for providing crucial medical services to those who have long struggled with health issues but lacked the funds for treatment.

The current camp at Kamwezi Health Center IV follows a series of similar initiatives led by Dr. Sylvia Alinaitwe and the Mission to Heal Organization across various facilities in Rukiga District.

The ongoing camp offers a range of surgical procedures, including urethroplasty, herniorrhaphies, hydrocelectomy, contracture release, and fistulectomy surgeries, among others.

With the camp nearing its end, the demand for medical services remains high, highlighting the critical need for extended support and resources for the residents of Rukiga District.
