Deputy Prime Minister Commends Uganda Prisons Service for Agricultural Excellence

KAMPALA-UGANDA: The Uganda Prisons Service has won three major trophies emerging victorious at the 30th National Agricultural Show, and has been honored for its outstanding innovation and creativity in various categories.

This was during the National Agricultural Show, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries in partnership with the Uganda National Farmers Federation held from July 26th to August 4th, 2024 in Jinja.

A ten days exhibition was held under the theme “Innovating Pathways to Farm Business-led Agro-Industrialization,” aimed at bringing together stakeholders in the agricultural sector to showcase their products in various fields.

The Uganda Prisons Service extended it’s dominance at the show for the past two decades after winning three wards including; the best Exhibitors Award, the Best Livestock Productivity and Management and the Best in Craft and Artisanry Institution.

Presiding over the as the Chief Guest at the awarding and the closing of the 30th National Agricultural Show on Sunday, the Deputy Prime Minister of Uganda Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, praised Uganda Prisons Service for its consistency in production and agricultural development in the country.

Kadaga also recognized the commission for its excellence in Livestock Productivity, Crop Production and Management, Agricultural Trainings and Extension, Furniture, Art, Craft, and Textiles Production.

Also the former speaker of Uganda’s Parliament now serving as the Minister of East Africa affairs Kadaga, pledged her full support and paid gratitude and thanks to the different stakeholders for making the exhibition a success.

Other stakeholders and winners include; Syova Seed Uganda Limited who won the Best Seed Company & Best Crop Company award, Uganda Coffee development Authority (UCDA) who also won the top spot as Best Government Institution Exhibitor and the Uganda Virus Research Institute (UIRI).
