The 20,000-seater multi-sports stadium construction has been contracted to MS/ Summa – a Turkish Company at a tune of 152 billion Shillings and will be constructed within 18 months, required to be ready by December 2025.

Hoima Stadium is among those that Uganda plans to host matches during the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which it will co-host with Kenya and Tanzania.

In a Ceremony held at State House Nakasero on Friday last week, the First Lady also the Minister of Education and Sports Janet Kataha Museveni challenged the contractor to deliver the highest standards and within time so that the stadium can ably compete internationally.

“Do not let Ugandans down because hosting the Africa Cup of Nations is a golden opportunity whose benefits go beyond football to a country,” said Janet Kataha Museveni.

The minister appealed to the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development to ensure that resources are released on time to avoid disruptions during project implementation due to the very tight deadline.

At the ceremony the National Council of Sports (NCS) General Secretary, Dr. Bernard Patrick Ogwel signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on behalf of the government of Uganda with M/S Summa Construction Company presented by Mr. Selim Bora who signed on their behalf.

In attendance was the Security Minister, Maj Gen Jim Muhwezi; Finance and Planning State Minister, Hon. Amos Lugoloobi, Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development Hon. Judith Nabakooba, Permanent Secretaries, Ms. Ketty Lamaro and Ms. Dorcas Okalany, senior government officials, members of the business community, the sports fraternity among others.
