Norbert Mao, also the President of the Democratic Party (DP) and a seasoned Lawyer, said this while launching a campaign to register new Party members a day after his wedding ceremony to Beatrice Nambi.

Speaking to this reporter the Party President General Norbert Mao said that a change in Uganda’s Politics shouldn’t be expected only through the ballot boxes but through other possible means like negotiations, a direction that they headed to.

“I will continue leading the party to desist those who are declaring wars that they did not fight. DP is a party for the whole of Uganda not one region. The Leadership of DP largely supports our direction and change in Uganda is not welcome through the ballot boxes alone, it’s going to be negotiated.” Said Hon. Min. Norbert Mao.

On July 20th 2022, General Norbert Mao, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the chairman of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), Yoweri Museveni, who is also the President of Uganda tying the cooperation.

The cooperation agreement took many opposition politicians and supporters by surprise and led to Uganda’s oldest party internal wrangles with some DP party members opting to withdraw their Party Subscription and Membership.

The agreement between the two leaders of Political Parties saw General Norbert Mao appointed Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister and Dr. Gerald Siranda the DP secretary general elected the East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) member.
