The launch of the project was done on Wednesday at Mwisi Primary School in Mwisi Parish Kitumba Sub County and about 370 trees including; Fruits trees, Shade Trees and Eucalyptus trees for Timber production were planted with assistance from the GEP President Ninsiima Evelyn Kikafunda

Speaking to our reporter, the vice chairperson of South western Regional Development Forum Prof. Mesharch Katusiimeh said that a tree planting drive has started in Kabale and is going to be extended to other parts of the districts in Kigezi and Ankole regions.

Katusiimeh said that most of the environmental challenges faced in the two regions come as a result of tree cutting, thus challenging individuals to always think of planting more trees before cutting one in a way of preserving the Environment for the next 5-10 years.

“We encourage the people to always think of growing more Trees before cutting the existing ones. It’s our role to preserve the environment for the next generation, 5-10 years and by launching a tree planting drive in Kigezi and Ankole regions, we will be able to combat some of the environmental challenges normally faced here” said Mesharch Katusiimeh.

Karuma Charles the Member of the Rotary club of Kabale, also an aspiring Chairman of the Kabale Rotary club said that the planted trees are from the Rotary club of Kabale and south western Regional Development Forum.

Karuma challenged the public to actively participate in the tree planting drive in conserving the environment, something he said will benefit their growing Children, Grand Children and their grand grand children in the near future.

“People should understand that even when they are no more, there will be people and among those who will be there will include even the young ones they are raising now. So we have to prepare for them a good future. It’s my humble appeal to each other and everyone, let us plant as many trees as possible!” said Karuma Charles.

Canon Hilary Byoruganda, a Board Member of south western Regional Development Forum said that conserving the environment is part of their Forum’s plan, with their focus being on improving Agro Industrialization, Tourism, Climate, Mineral Developments, and Water Management among others.

Byoruganda added that the south western Regional Development Forum works as the brain child of Local Governments with all the District chairpersons, District CAOs, Speakers and Planners in the districts of Kigezi and Ankole regions being Members of their Development Forum.
