A drunk pedestrian Knocked dead in Rukiga District.

RUKIGA: Police in Rukiga District have launched a manhunt for an unknown motor vehicle that knocked dead a pedestrian.

The deceased has been identified as Mbetabaitu Christopher 67 a resident of Kitaburaza cell, Nyakabengo parish, Bukinda Sub County in Rukiga district

The accident occurred on 22th May 2024 Wednesday at about 07:30 PM, within Kitaburaza cell along Kabale-Ntungamo highway in Rukiga district.

It’s alleged that Mbetabaitu Christopher the deceased while crossing the road to his home from a nearby junction while drunk was knocked down by a speeding car and died on spot.

The Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate confirmed to this reporter that the Police was notified, who visited and documented the scene and the body taken home for Burial arrangements.

Maate added that the cause of the accident primarily was careless movements of the pedestrian and that the inquiries are at hand with a hit and run fatal accident registered on T.A.R 13/2024.
