In a function held at the Rubanda District Headquarters on Friday a total of 1,654 Pre-painted iron sheets with their 191 ridges and 202 nails, plus 668 Twin Desks were flagged off and will be distributed in selected 56 Primary Schools this financial year.

While addressing the Head teachers from benefitting Primary Schools the Rubanda district LC V Chairman Hon. Ampeire Stephen Kasyaba revealed that the items were procured by the District in addition to the 1,232 pre-painted iron sheets distributed in the 2021/2022 financial year, and 380 in the 2022/2023 FY.

Kasyaba further revealed that more 1,800 iron sheets will be distributed to schools in the next financial year.

The Chairman says that previously, the District was distributing unpainted iron sheets to the Schools but since 2021, they have embarked on distributing pre-painted iron sheets because they are durable and they also smarten the buildings raised by Parent Teachers Associations.

After assuming Rubanda District Chairmanship, Mr. Kasayaba also revealed that they had distributed 2,258 twin Desks by May 2024, and they would distribute more than 1000 in the next financial year.

“These Twin Desks can accommodate three pupils at minimum and the plan is to provide enough and convenient sitting space, while we completely eliminate cases of pupils sitting down on the ground during School lessons.” Kasyaba said.

The Rubanda District Education Officer Francis Serunuuni said that they had procured the roofing materials and twin desks using additional funding that was secured with help from the State Minister of Finance Henry Musasizi who is also the Rubanda East Mp.

Mr. Serunuuni appealed to the Head teachers, School Management Committees and PTAs not to keep the iron sheets in stores but rather use them as soon as possible.

“After two weeks, we are going to make a follow up and find out how you have utilized these iron sheets.”

Meanwhile, the District Education Secretary, who is also the Bubaare Town Council LC.5 Councilor Mr. Obed Mutatiina Kitabutuka outlined a number of construction projects that the Rubanda District Local Government had implemented since 2021, as well as those under implementation and those in the pipeline.

These included construction of V.I.P latrines at various schools, Construction of Classroom blocks and dormitories at each secondary school, among others.

The function was witnessed by a number of dignitaries including; Rubanda District Asst. RDC Hillary Bindeeba, LC.V Vice Chairperson Prossy Kesafari, District Internal Security Officer Micheal Mwijukye and Muko Sub county LC.V Councilor Vincent Kibuye, among others.
