The CPA Kigezi Network launch was held on Thursday at Kirigime Guest House in Kabale Municipality by the ICPAU representative CPA Elizabeth Nanyama, who also presided over the Committee election of Kigezi Sub-region leaders.

According to Ms. Elizabeth Nanyama from ICPAU, the network of CPAs in Western Uganda is divided into two, the other being the Ankole CPA Network.

She explained that the objectives of the Networks include among others, enhancing professionalism, marketing the CPA course to the fresh graduates, easing access of technical services such as consultancy, auditing, accounting, helping the community to compute tax details among others.

Among the elected CPA Kigezi Network forum leaders include; the Rukungiri District Internal Auditor Ms. Aine Sarah Kamara as the Chairperson and Mr. Jessy Nkurikiyimana, as her Deputy.

Mr. Benon Rutangana was elected as the Network’s Treasurer, Junior Twebaze as the Secretary, Everest Tumwekwase as the Secretary for Publicity, and Ms. Justine Tushemereirwe as the Committee Advisor.

Other elected committee members include Mr. Geofrey Byarugaba, and Mr. Cornelius Byoruganda.

While addressing the Press after her election as the Pioneer Chairperson of the CPA Kigezi Region Network, Ms. Sarah Aine Kamara outlined her action plans which include programs to increase membership to the Network, refresher trainings for the CPAs, advocacy, marketing the Accounting profession to the younger generation, and establishment of the Kigezi Regional Study Centre.

“We intend to push for the establishment of a study center in Kigezi in order to reduce transport, accommodation and other costs met by the CPA students going for classes in Mbarara City that hosts the nearest study Centre.” said Sarah Aine Kamara.

The Institute of Certified Public Accountants (ICPAU) was established in 1992 under the Accountants Act 1992, which has since been repealed by the Accountants Act 2013 and Accountants Regulations 2016.
