The NUP Party President made the revelation yesterday while engaging journalists on the recent UK’s announced sanctions against the speaker of the Parliament and other two former Ministers including; Goretti Kitutu the former Karamoja Affairs Minister and her deputy Agnes Nandutu.

On Tuesday this week the UK Deputy Foreign Secretary, Andrew Mitchell, announced the sanctions on three high profile Ugandan politicians for being Corrupt.

While at the NUP Headquarters in Makerere Kavule, Kampala Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi said that the sanctions are a result of the frequent engagements with the international community and the call to end human Violation in Uganda.

When asked whether the sanctions may be connected with the UK’s dissatisfaction with an anti-homosexuality law passed in Uganda Kyaguranyi refuted the claim asking of why the mover Hon. Asuman Basalirwa (Bugiri Municipality MP) was spared.

“Many other Ugandans are pushing for action from the international community, not only the United Kingdom (UK) or the European Union (EU) but also the United States of America (USA) as well and many other development partners” said Robert Kyagulanyi.

The National Unity Platform Party president added that their move is to have other government officials also sanctioned including the President of the Republic of Uganda.

Britain has sanctioned 42 individuals and entities under its anti-corruption regime, including those from Russia, South Sudan, and Venezuela, since its establishment in 2021.
