Enraged mob in Bushenyi District accuse their Village Mates allegedly for killing their fellow

BUSHENYI: Police in Bushenyi District have rescued two people from the hands of the enraged mob, their properties Malicious Damaged and some stolen.

The two rescued Victims have been identified as Mpiirwe Leonard 31 a Mobile money dealer, a resident of Omukabingo Cell, and Musinguzi Vincent, 28 a businessman and a resident of Butare B Cell both from Butare Ward, Kyamuhunga Town council in Bushenyi District.

It is alleged that at around 05:00 PM yesterday at Butare Trading center within Kyamuhunga Town council, a group of residents and majority Boda Boda riders, attacked Mpiirwe Leonard and started assaulting him before Police rescued him.

Shortly after, the enraged mob started tracing for Musinguzi Vicent, and he( Musinguzi) learnt that the mob was looking for him, he handed himself in at Mashonga Police post abandoning his motor vehicle UAV 212 C in the bush near the highway.

The said mob went ahead to Mpiirwe’s residence, partly demolished his house and property inside destroyed by burning before they continued and attacked Musinguzi’s Swaziland bar and lodge within Butare Trading center destroyed items inside and allegedly went away with some properties at both attacked places.

The Greater Bushenyi Regional Police spokesperson SSP Marcial Tumusiime Confirmed the incident saying that a team of officers led by the OC Station Bushenyi Central Police Station rushed to both places and stopped the destruction and theft of property. 

Sources have it that the said mob action was following the recent murder and aggravated robbery that took the life of one of their residents Asiimwe Wilson where the residents are suspecting the two attacked Victims to have had a hand in the said Crime.

Residents also accuse the two of not participating in search for the deceased, not visiting the scene with them and not appearing at burial, yet they were close friends of the deceased. 

A One, Musinguzi is also suspected to have had a hand in Robbery of another motorcycle last month in the same area as there is no evidence to that effect. 

SSP Marcial Tumusiime told the Press that the OC engaged the local leaders, Boda Boda riders and other residents and encouraged them to desist from taking the law into their hands but rather maintain peace as the Police investigates their concern. 

He added that no suspect(s) was arrested as Musinguzi’s motor vehicle recovered and toured to Bushenyi Police station for safe custody.

The report of malicious damage and theft of property was formally opened at Butare police station vide SD 13/26/04/2024 and later registered as CRB: 354/2024 and the both rescued persons also transferred to Bushenyi CPS and detained vide CRB 350/2024.

The Scenes to be revisited this morning for proper documentation by SOCO Officers from Bushenyi Central Police Station.
