This follows the release of results from the assessment tests which were done by 51 teachers from 17 schools that registered poor performance in the 2023 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) Exams in Nakaseke District.

The Nakaseke district PLE results for the year 2023 saw a total of 604 candidates (12.9%) passing in first division, 2,706 candidates (57.9%) in the second division, 728 candidates (15.6%) in the third division, and 361 candidates (7.7%) in Division four.

The results also indicate that 276 candidates (5.6%) failed and 138 candidates (2.9%) of 4,813 candidates that registered didn’t sit for their PLE Examinations.

The performance prompted the district boss Hon. Ignatius Koomu then ordered the Education Department to subject teachers to sit for exams that pupils did during the mocks last year to establish their knowledge about the subjects they teach and how competent they are.

Speaking to this reporter the Uganda National Teachers’ Union (UNATU) General Secretary Mr. Filbert Bates Baguma said that the LC V Chairperson has no jurisdiction to assess the teachers prohibiting Koomu’s activities as illegal as the education department only has the responsibility to update the council on education matters.

“Koomu has been doing illegal things in Nakaseke in regard to the teaching learning process. In Nakaseke we have an education department headed by the district education officer who has the responsibility to update the council on education matters. Koomu as the LC V Chairperson has no jurisdiction to assess the teachers. These teachers were students in teacher training colleges. They did exams, assessed and qualified. They have their documents that they used to go to Nakaseke district service commission and were found fit for the Jobs so the acts of Mr. Koomu is outrageous on his part” said Filbert Baguma.

Responding to the call from the Teachers Union, the LC V Nakaseke District Ignatius Koomu said that as a people’s leader he must lead by example to the people who elected him to office as all the parents would be fully happy to see their children excelling.

He added that once the technical team has failed to reach at the peak of perfuming, as leaders they have to forge away forward a reason to why they carried out a teacher’s assessment.

On Monday, the Chairperson and the Nakaseke District Education Department released results from the assessment results indicating that the best score was 92%, whereas the worst was 27%.
