NEWS: The Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI) is establishing 4 regional Cancer Institutes with the one in Gulu City Northern Uganda already handling Cancer patients ahead of the planned official commissioning.

Prof. William said that the regional cancer institutes will be directly linked with Uganda Cancer institute in Mulago, where patient at the regional centers will be diagnosed and through the internet, consultants are able to evaluate them at the main center and give the response to the Regional center.
He added that the machines that are to be installed at regional cancer institutes are advanced, which have not been acquired at Uganda Cancer institute in Mulago, with hopes to relieve the Mulago Cancer Institute, which is currently overburdened by the number of patients.
Amos Obote, the Head of Northern Uganda Regional Cancer institute said that from July to December last year they have attended to 377 clients with 222 of 377 already treated and handled from the disease by 19 staff now at the facility.
Other centers will be established in Arua city Northern Uganda, Mbale city in the Eastern Region and another one in Mbarara City in Western Uganda.
