Kasese, Uganda – Marine Police at Hima Division Police, together with local residents, have retrieved the body of a herdsman from Community Valley Dam, where he drowned while rescuing his goat.

The deceased has been identified as 18-year-old Bwambale Paul from Ruhita Village, Hima Parish, Kitswamba Sub-county, Hima Division, whose body was recovered at 1:30 pm on Monday, April 28, 2025.

Sources indicate that the incident occurred on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at approximately 7:30 pm, when one of the goats being grazed escaped and went to the dam to drink water, resulting in its drowning. In an attempt to rescue the goat, the deceased followed it into the dam and tragically lost his life.

The Rwenzori East Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Nelson Tumushime, confirmed that Hima Police DPC SP Suzan Nerima Bwire and her team responded swiftly to the scene and initiated the rescue process.

The deceased’s body was retrieved and taken to Kasese Municipal Health Centre III for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death as an Investigations been launched following the incident.
