Breaking News: Bukinda Sub County LC5 Woman Councilor seat heats up as one candidate’s vehicle tires are slashed with a knife at her residence in Muhanga, Rukiga district.

The incident occurred just hours before the ongoing NRM local council elections, escalating tensions in an already charged political atmosphere.

Hon. Tumwijukye Allen Kirasha, a contender for the seat, reported that her vehicle (UBT 040E) had its left tires punctured by knife wounds.

Allen accused her political rival, incumbent Councilor Brenda Ainembabazi, of orchestrating the attack, citing their ongoing electoral rivalry.

This act of sabotage comes amid heightened tensions following last Thursday’s contentious NRM primaries, which were marred by disputes over vote tampering and alleged misconduct in neighboring districts.

The NRM local council elections are currently underway nationwide, with intense competition reported in Rukiga District. The district has a history of deep political divisions, including protests earlier this year over the removal of Vice Chairman Samuel Niwandinda.

Incidents of intimidation and property damage have also plagued previous elections, raising concerns about electoral violence as Uganda approaches the 2026 general elections.

The situation is developing, and updates will follow as more information becomes available.
