Ntungamo, Uganda – Police in Ntungamo District are investigating a serious road accident that injured a 78-year-old man in a collision with a motor vehicle along the Ntungamo-Kabale highway on Tuesday, 8th July 2025.

The victim, identified as Tabura Eliab of Kagongi Cell, Kagango Ward, sustained injuries in the 7:40 am crash at Omukidebe, Rubaare.

Rwizi Region Police Spokesperson SP Samson Kasasira confirmed the accident involved cyclist Eliab Tabura and motor vehicle UAK 003X, driven by Alex Niwandinda from the same area.

According to police reports, the Kabale-bound vehicle collided with the cyclist when he abruptly turned right at Omukidebe, resulting in a head-to-side impact that left the elderly man severely injured.

A Rubaare Police investigation team led by CPL Wakibi Stanley documented the scene before the critically injured cyclist was transferred to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, where he continues receiving treatment.

The motor vehicle remains impounded at Rubaare Police Station pending vehicle inspection, with the bicycle held as evidence. Driver Alex Niwandinda was released on police bond as authorities work to obtain the victim’s statement from the hospital.

Police have warned all road users to exercise extreme caution on the accident-prone Omukidebe stretch of the Ntungamo-Kabale highway.
