Rukiga, Uganda – The team rallying behind Dr. Sylvia Alinaitwe, a hopeful Woman MP for Rukiga District, has secured over 90% of NRM seats in the recently concluded party structures election.
The elections, which took place from the village to the district level, saw Dr. Alinaitwe’s team win in all categories.
In an interview with this reporter, Hon. Kyarisiima Moreen, the newly elected Rukiga District Women’s League NRM Chairperson, attributed the team’s success to Dr. Alinaitwe’s dedication to the district and its people.
Moreen cited the numerous projects initiated by Dr. Alinaitwe, including the distribution of coffee seedlings and the Akabox serving initiative for women, men, and youth, which have helped elevate families from poverty.
“I can confidently confirm that families have gradually risen from poverty lines, hoping to see the whole of Rukiga declared a rich district soon, following the different initiatives brought by Dr. Sylvia Alinaitwe. This lady has proven to be a woman with her people at heart, which is why people love her,” said Moreen Kyarisiima.
Frank Kyerere, the newly elected NRM District Chairperson, stated that many people have already recognized Dr. Sylvia Alinaitwe as a capable leader likely to drive the development of Rukiga District.
Kyerere noted that he was surprised to see the incumbent Rukiga Woman MP, an eligible party structure voter, failing to participate in the exercise, but added that Dr. Sylvia’s achievements in the district speak for themselves.
“You can see with your eyes what she has already done in the district; there are many, very many projects that she has initiated,” Kyerere said.
The NRM electoral process began on April 24, 2025, with nominations at the village and LC1 levels, followed by Parish Elections on May 12, Sub-County Elections on May 16, Municipal Elections on May 19, and District Elections on May 23.
The process will continue with Parliamentary Flag Bearer Elections on July 16 and culminate in Presidential Candidate Selection at Namboole.
