Kampala, Uganda – The Church of Uganda Higher Education Leaders Association (COUHELA) has taken a significant step towards supporting research and academic programs in its institutions.

Recently, Vice Chancellors and Principals of Church of Uganda universities and colleges signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) committing to mobilize financial resources for the COUHELA Endowment Fund.

According to Rev. Canon William Ongeng, the Provincial Secretary, the meeting at Ankole Western University in the Diocese of West Ankole raised UGX 150 million towards the Fund.

The COUHELA Endowment Fund aims to support research and academic programs in Church of Uganda institutions, promoting academic excellence and innovation.

Archbishop Steven Kazimba Mugalu warmly congratulated the Chairperson of COUHELA, Canon Prof. Aaron Mushengyezi, the Vice Chancellor of Uganda Christian University, the Director of Education Services, Rev. Canon Dr. Paul Kakooza, and all the leaders in the Association for this great achievement.

The signing of the MoU and the mobilization of funds demonstrate the commitment of Church of Uganda leaders to advancing higher education and research in the country.

As the Endowment Fund continues to grow, it is expected to have a positive impact on the academic landscape of Uganda, supporting the development of future leaders and innovators.

The Church of Uganda’s commitment to promoting education and research is evident in its efforts to establish and support various institutions of higher learning.
