The Bishop of Ankole Diocese Rt. Rev. Dr. Fred Sheldon Mwesigwa has cautioned Christians against the increasing number of false preachers who are gaining followers by performing what he termed as fake Healing miracles.

Bishop Sheldon was delivering his message at the 9th East African Revival Kabale Convention, a four-day conference organized by the Diocese of Kigezi once every ten years. The event took place at the Rugarama Convention Site.

He expressed concern that some Christians, including those who are born again, have failed to distinguish between true and false doctrines, making them vulnerable to imposters claiming to perform miracles.

“On my way here, I was reading a book written by Dr. Watiti, a Pentecostal pastor, not an Anglican, and he is equally disturbed by these fake miracles,” Bishop Sheldon remarked during his sermon at the conference.

While acknowledging God’s power to heal all diseases, Bishop Sheldon particularly warned HIV patients against abandoning their treatment based on the claims of so-called religious leaders. He argued that doing so amounts to placing all their hope in a mortal man rather than in God Himself.

He also emphasized that the rise of evil should motivate increased evangelism. Referencing Matthew 28:18, Rt. Rev. Sheldon Mwesigwa reminded Christians of the Great Commission which is Jesus Christ’s command to all believers to share the gospel with the entire world.

He further encouraged the Church to take advantage of Uganda’s current freedom of worship to reach all people with the true gospel.

There are several countries around the world where preaching the gospel is difficult due to persecution, even from governments and workplaces,” he said.
