Rubanda, Uganda – Rubanda Police have successfully apprehended a woman accused of murdering her husband in a breakthrough arrest.

The suspect, identified as Ekyinaheirwe Salimu Joventa, allegedly killed Andrew Byomugabe, a 50-year-old nurse residing in Ndego Trading Center, Kashasha Parish, Ikumba Sub County, Rubanda District.

According to ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Police spokesperson, Joventa was arrested on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at Hamurwa while attempting to flee to Kanungu District, following an intelligence tip-off.

Maate clarified that contrary to circulating reports, no body parts were found on Joventa, as the postmortem examination revealed that the deceased’s body was intact.

“Joventa was arrested on an intelligence tip-off in the morning hours of Sunday at Hamurwa while trying to escape to Kanungu District. She was not found with any body parts of the deceased, as some platforms suggested, because the body of the late Andrew was intact with all its body parts at the time of carrying out the postmortem,” Maate said.

The police confirmed that investigations are nearly complete, and Joventa will face charges in court accordingly, with the arrest bringing relief to the community, which was shaken by the brutal crime.

It’s worth noting that Rubanda District has experienced other violent incidents recently, including a separate case where two individuals were lynched by a mob over murder accusations in Nshanjaare Town Council.
