Kabale, Uganda – Kabale police are investigating the death of an unidentified man whose body was found floating in a river at Mushenyi “A” village, Bigaga parish, Butanda sub-county, Kabale district.

According to reports, area chairman Baburata Edison received information on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, about the dead body in the River.

Accompanied by local residents, the chairperson confirmed the presence of the unidentified person in the river and promptly reported the matter to Butanda police, who opened a case file for suspected murder.

Kigezi Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate said a homicide team led by D/IP Barijunaki Samuel, Acting D/CID officer Kabale, visited and documented the crime scene.

The body was retrieved and taken to Kabale referral hospital mortuary for examination, with statements recorded from the first respondents.

“Upon receiving this heartbreaking news, we opened a case file for suspected murder. Our homicide team promptly visited the crime scene, documented it, and retrieved the body. It was then taken to Kabale referral hospital mortuary for examination, and we recorded statements from the first respondents,” said Elly Maate.

With investigations ongoing and no arrests made, ASP Elly Maate appeals to anyone missing a loved one to visit the hospital mortuary for identification and potential retrieval for a decent burial.
