Kanungu, Uganda – Residents in Rukarara village, Kihembe parish, Kanungu district lynched a fellow resident believed to be a habitual thief with a numerous reports record at Police.

The deceased was identified as Emmy Busingye, 35, who was tragically killed by mob justice in an incident that occurred at 11:50 am on Saturday, June 7, 2025, after he was suspected of theft due to his previous record of numerous reports at Kihihi police station.

Sources indicate that in a shocking display of mob justice, boda boda riders who suspected Emmy Busingye of riding a stolen numberless motorcycle swiftly alerted a crowd that converged on him, overpowered him, and brutally lynched him in Rukarara village.

The Kigezi Police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed that the police were alerted and swiftly responded, processing and documenting the scene before conveying the body to Kihihi Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination.

He added that the police are investigating the circumstances surrounding Busingye’s death, working to identify those involved, and will bring them to book to face charges accordingly.

“Our officers were informed of this incident, and they responded, processed the scene, and took the body to Kihihi Health Centre IV for postmortem. We are investigating Busingye’s death, seeking to identify and prosecute those responsible, ensuring justice is served,” said Elly Maate.

The police appreciate community cooperation in their ongoing investigation into this tragic incident and encourage all to uphold the rule of law and respect for human life.
