Rukiga, Uganda – Bishop Gaddie Akanjuna, presiding over a Mass Wedding Ceremony for 63 couples at Emmanuel Church of Uganda, Muhanga Parish, Rukiga District, on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, has advised the newlyweds to cultivate a habit of continuous admiration for their spouses.

The Bishop emphasized that a strong marriage relies on partners appreciating each other’s beauty and uniqueness every day.

He lamented that many men have become less involved in family responsibilities, with some women taking on traditionally male roles.

“We live in a world where some men have abdicated their responsibilities. Marriage stands when partners continue to see each other with fresh eyes, appreciating the beauty in one another. As humans, we have a tendency to get distracted, but it’s crucial to prioritize our marriages,” Bishop Akanjuna said.

The initiator of the mass wedding, Mr. Kwasire Julius Mponoka, Assistant Commissioner at Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), emphasized that marriage is a divine institution rooted in the story of Adam and Eve.

He attributed the growth of the church to its adherence to traditions, including spiritual weddings that bring couples closer to God.

Hon. Dr. Sylvia Alinaitwe, aspiring Woman MP, witnessed the ceremony and commended the couples for choosing to sanctify their union through God’s blessings.

She also appreciated the Kigezi Diocesan Bishop Rt. Rev. Gaddie Akanjuna for officiating the wedding, highlighting the church’s pivotal role in nurturing marriages.

Dr. Alinaitwe presented uniforms to the newlywed couples, encouraging them to join the church’s Mothers and Fathers Unions.

Meanwhile, Kamusiime Zadok, RDC Rukiga District, expressed concern over the alarming school dropout rate, which has risen to 74% in the district.

He urged parents to prioritize education and pledged to support initiatives that promote household income and development, regardless of political affiliations.

Notably, Hon. Caroline Kamusiime Muhwezi facilitated the dressing of all 63 bridegrooms with wedding attire.

The ceremony was also attended by Hon. Alex Kanuga, aspiring Rukiga County MP, who gifted each wedded couple a hamper to help them in their new life together.
