Kasese, Uganda – Katwe Kabatoro Police in Kasese District has launched an investigation into an aggravated robbery that targeted two homes, allegedly involving armed robbers.

The incident occurred on Saturday, May 17, 2025, with the first attack happening at approximately 2:00 AM and the second at 2:30 AM.

The complainant, who was asleep inside her house, heard unusual noise at the main door and alerted her neighbors for help upon realizing intruders were attempting to break in. However, the rescue team arrived too late to intervene effectively.

The robbers fired a bullet into the air to scare away the would-be rescuers and, as they retreated, attacked another home, stealing household items including 60,000 shillings in cash, bed sheets, cameras, and two music speakers.

According to the Rwenzori East Regional Police spokesperson, SP Nelson Tumushime, the robbers also destroyed the outside CCTV cameras of the second home.

SP Tumushime confirmed that investigations are underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack, with authorities working to apprehend the suspects and recover the stolen items.

Unfortunately, Kasese district has experienced similar scary incidents in the recent past, such as the June 2023 attack on Lhubirira Secondary School by suspected Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels, which killed 42 people, including 37 students.

Furthermore, the district was also marred by the November 2016 incident where the Ugandan army attacked the Rwenzururu royal palace, resulting in over 100 deaths, leading to a tense environment with reports of beatings, arrests, and retaliation against critics and those perceived as loyal to the king.
