NTUNGAMO, UGANDA – Leaders of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) in Ntungamo District have issued a strong appeal for all independent candidates sympathetic to the party to withdraw from their races and rally behind official flag bearers.

The call was made by Maj. General Wilis Byarugaba, the Chairperson of the Ntungamo Veterans League, on Tuesday at the district NRM offices during a high-stakes meeting of party stakeholders and religious leaders.

Byarugaba stated that NRM-leaning independent candidates should withdraw and back the party’s flag bearers, warning that their continued candidacy would spoil efforts to canvass votes for President Museveni.

The gathering, which served as a strategic war room convening a powerful cross-section of the party’s machinery, was primarily aimed at planning for President Yoweri Museveni’s November 27 campaign rally in the district.

Attendees included incumbent NRM Members of Parliament, the party’s flag bearers for various positions, and chairpersons from all administrative levels from counties down to villages.

Religious leaders, civil servants, and party mobilizers were also present, forming committees dedicated to ensuring a successful campaign event for the President.

A key objective of these committees is to organize a massive turnout for the President’s visit, which includes plans to transport supporters from across Ntungamo to the rally venue to create a show of overwhelming force.

The Vice Chairperson of NRM in Ntungamo District, Hon. Yona Musinguzi, charged the attendees to “fight for a landslide win for President Museveni.”

Musinguzi, who is also the NRM flag bearer for Ntungamo Municipality and the incumbent MP, emphasized the critical need for a consolidated vote.

Seezi Rukurungu, a Private Secretary from the Office of the First Lady, Janet Kataaha Museveni, reinforced the demand for Ntungamo to produce a standout result.

He echoed the Vice Chairperson’s sentiment, reminding those present that as the President’s home district, Ntungamo must lead in votes for President Museveni.

The move forms a key part of the NRM’s strategy to eliminate internal rivals, present a united front, and secure an uncontested landslide victory for President Museveni and its parliamentary flag bearers.
