Kampala, Uganda – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Saturday submitted his nomination forms to the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party Electoral Commission, officially declaring his candidacy for both NRM Party Chairman and Presidential Flag Bearer in the upcoming elections.

The high-profile event took place at the NRM party headquarters in Kyadondo, Plot 13, Nakasero II Parish, Kampala, under heavy security deployment following intelligence reports of potential threats.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed that security agencies conducted extensive threat assessments ahead of the event, leading to a multi-layered security operation.

“Security agencies deployed foot and motorized patrols, undercover officers, and a specialized quick response team, all of which ensured order throughout the event,” Onyango stated.

During the operation, security forces arrested 16 individuals suspected of planning to disrupt public order.

Police reports indicated that the suspects were found in possession of opium and were allegedly coordinating to cause chaos in the city.

President Museveni, who has led Uganda since 1986, used the occasion to rally party supporters, emphasizing stability and continuity.

“The NRM remains committed to serving the people, and we will continue championing development and security for all Ugandans,” he declared.

Although the event concluded peacefully, security agencies remain on high alert, with intelligence teams monitoring potential threats. Police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
