Kanungu, Uganda – Tragedy has struck Kanungu district, where a young woman was found dead under shocking circumstances at the St. Andrews Catholic Church playground, after being last seen socializing with men at a local bar.
The deceased has been identified as Atwikirize Mackline, 30, a resident of Mukirwa cell, Kinaaba sub-county, a vibrant community in Kanungu district.
According to sources and preliminary investigations, Mackline had sold a pig and matooke for UGX 900,000/= on Thursday, June 27, 2025, and used part of the money to buy items including clothes at Kinaaba market.
Witnesses reported that Mackline was seen consuming alcohol with several unidentified men at a local bar in the evening and later left the premises around 11:00 p.m. in their company.
Kigezi Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate confirmed that Mackline’s body was discovered by children heading to the garden the following morning, prompting immediate notification and a thorough investigation by the police.
Maate added that a sniffer dog was deployed at the crime scene, leading to the arrest of one suspect who is currently assisting the authorities with their inquiries.
A postmortem examination was conducted at the crime scene, and the body was subsequently handed over to Mackline’s relatives for burial.
The police are diligently working to uncover the circumstances surrounding Mackline’s death and bring perpetrators to justice, with ongoing inquiries, and urge anyone with information to come forward.
