Rukiga, Uganda – Rukiga district is set to benefit from a new highly equipped tertiary vocational institution, courtesy of a partnership between Hon. Dr. Sylvia Alinaitwe, the aspiring Woman MP, and Women Development Alliance (WODA).
Dr. Alinaitwe made this commitment on June 20, 2025, during the launch of her legislative campaign and manifesto, ahead of the NRM party primaries in mid-July.
According to Dr. Sylvia, WODA has already secured land in Kangondo Trading Center in Rwamucucu Sub County, and construction of a multi-stored skilling center is underway.

This initiative is poised to empower both youth and women in the district by equipping them with valuable skills, enhancing their employability, and unlocking new opportunities for economic growth and self-sufficiency.
Dr. Sylvia, known for her earlier initiative of distributing coffee seedlings to residents, also plans to establish coffee collection centers in every village within Rukiga district to secure a market for local coffee farmers.

Speaking on behalf of the Women Development Alliance initiative founders, Hon. Atukunda Abu Victory Abigail revealed that the institute’s launch was delayed due to sabotage from the current district leadership, which confiscated the land they had secured.
Hon. Abigail expressed gratitude to Dr. Sylvia Alinaitwe for her substantial support, enabling the initiative to equip youth and women with valuable skills that will enhance their future prospects.

The Women Development Alliance (WODA) initiative was founded in 2017 by five former aspiring women MPs, including Atukunda Abu Victory Abigail, Kihumuro Pamela, Alice Basobokwe, Kyarisiima Moreen, and Tumubwine Charity.
With over 1,500 members from every village in Rukiga district, WODA’s objectives include fostering development, mobilizing women and youth, and establishing skilling centers.
WODA is currently partnering with the Kanungu Girls Initiative (K16 Girls) under Dr. Sylvia Alinaitwe’s patronage to provide sanitary pads to school-going young girls.
