According to the Kigezi police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, the deceased has been identified as Twesigye Anthony, 30, a resident of Rukidi Street in Fort Portal municipality.

Anthony’s dead body was discovered by two men who had gone to the stadium for leisure on June 1, 2025, and he was identified through a national identity card found on his person.

Preliminary investigations suggest that Anthony may have taken his own life, as a sachet of brown substance suspected to be rat poison, featuring a rat picture, was discovered near his body, further fueling suspicions of poisoning.

Maate confirmed that the two men who discovered the body promptly alerted the authorities, triggering a swift police response to process and document the crime scene.

“The body was retrieved from the crime scene and taken to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a thorough postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. Inquiries are currently ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding his demise and to confirm the rightful cause of his death, ensuring that all facts are uncovered and justice is served,” said Elly Maate.
