Kasese, Uganda – A 20-year-old man has ended his life by hanging in a tragic incident that occurred in Katwe Kabatoro Division, Kasese District.

Mumbere Derrick, a resident of Kikorongo Trading Centre, was found dead in a suspected case of suicide by hanging at approximately 5:00 pm on May 19, 2025.

According to ASP Lodia Micheal, the OC Station Kikorongo, the deceased was discovered hanging from a tree with a piece of cloth tied around his neck. His body was subsequently taken to Kasese Municipal Council Health Centre III for a postmortem examination.

The Rwenzori East Regional Police spokesperson, SP Nelson Tumushime, has urged the public, particularly young people, to seek help when dealing with depression and stress rather than resorting to suicide.

“We continue to urge our members of the public, particularly young people and youth, to avoid death by suicide as a response to depression and stress, but rather to seek help from friends, religious leaders, and other available counseling centers,” Nelson noted.

Nelson added that the police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death, emphasizing the importance of seeking help from other people.

The region has seen a rise in suicide cases among 20-28-year-olds, prompting calls for community support for those struggling with mental health issues.
