Reports indicate that Hillary Akampumuza, the deceased’s son, discovered his father’s body and alerted his stepmother, Atuheire Praize, who then informed neighbors to check on the situation. When questioned about Andrew’s whereabouts, Joventa claimed he had gone to sell timber in Mbarara.

However, when the LC III Chairman of Ikumba, Wensi, and others arrived, they broke into the bedroom and found Andrew’s lifeless body lying in a pool of blood with a grey sweater tied around his head.

Upon discovering the body at around 6:00 pm on May 1, 2025, Joventa fled the scene, and the police were notified. A murder case was registered at Rubanda Police Station.

ASP Maate Elly, Kigezi Police Spokesperson, confirmed that the scene was processed, and a postmortem was conducted. Community policing efforts were also carried out before the body was handed over to relatives for burial.

“After the incident, our officers were alerted, a case of murder was registered at Rubanda Police Station, the scene was visited, processed, and documented. No exhibit was recovered at the crime scene, and a postmortem was done at the scene. Community policing was also done at the scene, and the body was handed over to the relatives for burial,” said ASP Maate Elly.

Maate further confirmed that inquiries are currently underway to apprehend the suspect, with the incident highlighting the need for continued efforts to maintain law and order in the region.
