Kampala, Uganda – The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has launched a nationwide sensitization campaign dubbed “YO SIM CARD, YO LIFE” to educate the public on digital safety and consumer protection.
The campaign aims to popularize the Regulations of Interception of Communications Regulations, 2024 (RICA Regulations), which provide comprehensive guidelines for SIM card registration, swapping, and replacement processes.
The campaign targets various customers, including individuals, corporate bodies, foreign nationals, refugees, asylum seekers, and others.
It seeks to raise awareness about digital safety, strengthen consumer protection, and educate the public on offences related to using SIM cards unlawfully.
The campaign kicked off in Soroti on April 15, 2025, and will visit the cities of Mbale today Wednesday April 16, 2025 and then to Jinja City on Thursday April 17, 2025 from which it will move to the northern, western, and central regions.
UCC’s primary mandate is to regulate the communications sector, which includes telecommunications, broadcasting, radio communication, postal communications, data communication, and infrastructure.
The commission emphasizes consumer protection and education, providing guidelines and resources for consumers to understand their rights and obligations.
By promoting digital safety and consumer protection, the “YO SIM CARD, YO LIFE” campaign aims to create a safer and more secure digital environment for the Citizens.
