Rukiga, Uganda – Police in Rukiga District have arrested a security guard attached to Rukiga Sacco Kamwezi branch for allegedly shooting and killing a herdsman employed by Mbabazi Kakwerere, the district chairperson of Rukiga.

The deceased has been identified as Nabimanya Kendrick, 22, a resident of Kigara B cell, Kigara parish, Kamwezi sub-county, Rukiga District. He was allegedly shot by Musinguzi Silas, a 21 security guard attached to Safe Tech Security Company.

According to sources, Kendrick and his fellow herdsman, Alias Owamahoro, were looking after cows at the farm along the road on Saturday around 9:30 pm when they saw Silas, armed with a gun, walking towards Muhanga with a woman.

After Silas bypassed them, Kendrick followed to identify the woman, allegedly provoking Silas, who turned back and shot Kendrick, killing him instantly.

ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, stating that police were alerted, and the scene was visited by a team of police officers.

Statements were recorded from witnesses, and the body was taken to Kamwezi H/C IV for a postmortem and the suspect was arrested, and the used weapon was recovered pending submission for analysis.

“Our officers were alerted, and a murder case file was opened, with investigations underway. Unfortunately, it’s regrettable that some security personnel resort to using firearms to resolve disputes, rather than seeking alternative solutions.” Said ASP Elly Maate.

Maate added that inquiries are ongoing, and upon completion, the suspect will be arraigned before the courts of law to answer charges accordingly.
