Presenting the Alternative Budget Priorities for the financial year 2024/25 the shadow finance Minister Hon. Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda said that their priorities of the budget will see a reduction by 75% which are not necessary.

The shadow finance Minister added that their Alternative Budget for the year 2024/25 calls for the solutions to reduce the National date burden which now stands at 97 trillion Ugandan shillings.

Speaking at the faction National Unity Platform (NUP) Party President Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi emphasized a need for change in the country’s leadership which will create better policies intended to implement the good ideas.

He emphasized a need to fight corruption where a lot of money is in public Administration where a lot of money is being swindled from.

“No matter how good the alternatives are, no matter how well intentioned the MPs are, it won’t make any difference for as long as there is no power to implement these good ideas. We must reject, we must resist all forms of corruption others all this will be going to waste” said by Hon. Robert Kyaguranyi.

The Finance minister Matia Kasaija in September last year said that the ultimate goal of the Budget Strategy for FY 2024/2025, is to accelerate economic growth to at least 7% in the medium term with the ultimate goal of building an independent, integrated, and self-sustaining economy.

The minister said it will involve transitioning from a raw-materials-based to a manufacturing and knowledge-based economy; as well as improving the environment of doing business in Uganda and making it competitive.
