KAMPALA – The Kisoro District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Akifeza Grace Ngabirano, has pledged to prioritize disaster management, access to clean water, education, and community economic empowerment in the 12th Parliament.

The function attracted several dignitaries from Kisoro and beyond, including former Luuka County MP Fred Bahati, Kisoro District Chief Administrative Officer John Nyakawuma, Assistant District Health Officer Mrs. Annet Dusabe, and various district councillors.
Speaking during the event, Hon. Akifeza emphasized the urgent need to strengthen disaster preparedness and response in disaster-prone areas of Kisoro District, particularly in Muramba, Nyarusiza, Chahafi, and parts of Bukimbiri.
Amid landslides blocking the Rubuguri-Kisoro road, the legislator stressed the urgent need to rebuild the district’s road infrastructure to ensure smoother movement of people and goods.
Hon. Akifeza also pledged to improve access to clean and safe water, strengthen education services and healthcare, and empower communities through development programs aimed at improving livelihoods and resilience.
She commended the people of Kisoro for entrusting her with leadership, assuring them that she would work tirelessly to fulfill her promises and meet their expectations.

During the ceremony, Assistant District Health Officer Mrs. Annet Dusabe praised Hon. Akifeza for prioritizing healthcare reforms in the district through the provision of medical facilities and equipment.
She noted that health institutions in Kisoro have for years faced shortages of essential services and equipment such as theatres, blood banks, and hospital beds.

Meanwhile, former Luuka County MP Hon. Fred Bahati called on Hon. Akifeza to foster inclusive, non-divisive leadership while stepping up efforts to lobby for poverty reduction and job creation for the people of Kisoro.
Bahati further encouraged residents to embrace agriculture and cattle farming as practical ways of improving household incomes and fighting poverty within communities.
