Local Sports – SC Volcanoes (Mutolere SC) set the Western Region League alight on Saturday, clinching the championship in emphatic fashion with a commanding 4–0 demolition of Rwampara Bulls at the Kinoni Playground.

The victory was not just a statement of intent but a coronation, as the Volcanoes erupted with three first-half goals before adding a fourth after the break to seal the title with three matches still remaining in the season.

After an unusually delayed kickoff, Volcanoes arriving at 3:08 PM and the hosts at 4:15 PM, the action finally got underway at 4:48 PM, with the quality well worth the wait.

The opening exchanges were balanced, but the visitors drew first blood in the 9th minute through a clever link-up between Derrick Ikooza (shirt 6) and the livewire Ndawura.

Ndawura delivered an intelligent cross into the box, where midfielder Fiat (shirt 4) calmly slotted home to make it 1–0.

Rwampara Bulls responded with courage, creating several chances through their attacking midfielders, particularly their influential number 10.

In the 21st minute, a stinging shot tested the Volcanoes’ goalkeeper, who was equally sharp to deny a dangerous header moments later.

But Volcanoes were ruthless: in the 28th minute, Derrick launched a precise long pass to Ndawura, who drove into the box before unselfishly setting up Julius Lukyamuzi for a composed finish to double the lead.

The onslaught continued. Just before halftime, in the 35th minute, Ndawura turned provider once again, whipping in a pinpoint cross for Ronaldo (shirt 7), who directed a smart header into the net to make it 3–0 at the break.

Rwampara Bulls emerged from the tunnel with renewed energy, launching waves of attacks and earning multiple set pieces in search of a comeback.

However, the Volcanoes’ defense stood like a fortress, and any lingering hopes for the hosts were extinguished in the 52nd minute.

Captain Alex Mandela rose highest from a set-piece to power home the fourth goal, then received a standing ovation as he was substituted for Babuji (shirt 15).

Even with the game won, Rwampara refused to surrender, pressing and testing the Volcanoes’ shot-stopper in the latter stages, but the scoreline remained untouched.

At the final whistle, SC Volcanoes celebrated not just three points, but the Western Region League title.

Rwampara Bulls head coach Bbaale Siraj Ssendyowa was gracious in defeat, admitting it was not their day while vowing to come back stronger in a very competitive league.

SC Volcanoes head coach Patrick Ochan beamed with pride, hailing the three points, four goals, and clean sheet as a big milestone that confirms their championship and playoff slot.

Club president Dr. Martin Mbonye hailed the team’s historic achievement, applauding their effort and consistency while stressing that continued hard work is essential as they approach the next stage.

Dr. Mbonye also confirmed that FUFA authorities are expected to hand over the league trophy during their upcoming home derby against Gorilla Highlands SC at Mashaka Playground on 9th May.

In other fixtures: Six o’clock, the second-placed side with 33 points, played out a goalless draw against Makenke Barracks FC at the Makenke Barracks Playgrounds on the same day.

That stalemate, combined with Volcanoes’ 4–0 victory over third-placed Rwampara Bulls (25 points), created an unassailable 12-point gap at the summit.

With 45 points and a stunning 39-goal tally, SC Volcanoes have three fixtures remaining, but the real business now turns to the upcoming playoffs and a celebratory trophy presentation on home soil.
