Police in Kanungu District Equipped with a Sniffer Dog to handle crimes in the area

KANUNGU: In a way Of Curtailing Rampant Theft Crimes, Police in Kanungu have been equipped with a K-9 Dog Code named Prince (Germany Shepherd).

A Sniffer Dog was delivered at Kanungu central police station on Saturday by a team from the Police headquarters Kampala headed by AIP Kyesiimo Gabriel and its handler PC Otim.

Speaking at the launch and hand over of a K-9 Dog code named prince (Germany shepherd) AIP Kyesiimo Gabriel said that the canine unit is like any other police service that works together with SOCCO & CID after a report has been registered at police to enable them move officially.

The Kanungu DPC SP Kutosi Titus expressed gratitude and applauded the IGP, RPC, Min & Mp Kinkizi East Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomusi, Mr. James Musinguzi Garuga, the Kanungu Woman Mp Hon. Patience Kinshaba Nkunda, Kinkiizi West MP Hon. Niringiyimana James Ruugi Kaberuka, the District Boss and other Stakeholders for the Effort and Support Rendered towards Bringing the Canine Unit.

SP Kutosi Titus Identified Challenges that Include among others; Lack of Transport means and fuel allocation for the Canine, for its movement across the District and the Community lacking Information about the Dog Services, thus Calling for Joint Sensitization to help the CLO in doing so.

The Mayor Kanungu Town Council also NRM Chairperson Kanungu District Hon. Godfrey Karabenda Expressed Gratitude and said this will act as a preventing tool for coffee thieves which is rampant from which other thieves will fear to steal people’s properties which previously lacked in the disrespect.

Godfrey Karabenda added that Kanungu as a whole has been suffering for lacking a canine unit thus urging the LC’s and all other leaders to sensitize citizens to put at use the services of the Canine Unit.

The Kigezi Police Spokesperson Elly Maate confirmed to the media that sniffer dog services will help to curtail rampant crimes of thefts of coffee, domestic animals and other crimes of the same nature.

The Kigezi Police Spokesperson further encouraged the public to freely utilize the dog services once they have issues of concern.

The handover ceremony was witnessed by a number of local leaders including the District speaker, the area woman councilor, area chairpersons, Media fraternity to mention but a few.
